How to Get Rid of Clothes Moths Before They Destroy Your Wardrobe

How to Spot a Clothes Moth Problem Early

Unlike pantry moths, clothes moths avoid light. You rarely see them flying around. Instead, look for these warning signs:

  • Small irregular holes in wool, silk, or cashmere items
  • Silky webbing or small cases inside clothing folds
  • Tiny cream-colored larvae on fabric surfaces
  • A musty smell inside closed wardrobes

If you spot any of these signs, act immediately. The larvae do the damage, not the adult moths.

Step 1 — Deep Clean Your Wardrobe

Remove everything from the wardrobe. Vacuum all surfaces including corners, shelves, and rails. Empty the vacuum bag outdoors immediately after.

Wash all affected clothing at 60°C or above. For delicate items that cannot be washed at high temperature, place them in a sealed bag in the freezer for 72 hours. Cold kills both eggs and larvae.

Step 2 — Treat the Wardrobe Interior

Spray Sulguy Peppermint Bug Spray along the interior walls, floor, and shelves of your wardrobe. The natural peppermint oil acts as a strong repellent against moths and other fabric pests.

For a deeper treatment, lightly dust Sulguy Diatomaceous Earth with Peppermint along wardrobe edges and corners. It damages insect exoskeletons on contact without leaving toxic residue on your clothes.

Step 3 — Place Glue Traps to Monitor Activity

Position Sulguy Crawling Insect Glue Traps on the wardrobe floor and on shelves. These catch adult moths and larvae, and help you monitor whether the infestation is under control.

Check traps every week. If you are still catching moths after two weeks, a second treatment round is needed.

Step 4 — For Severe Infestations

If clothes moths have spread beyond your wardrobe to carpets or upholstered furniture, use Sulguy Crawling Pest Control Powder Spray on carpet edges and along skirting boards. It is odorless and safe for indoor use once dry.

For whole-room perimeter treatment, Sulguy Bifenthrin Concentrate diluted and sprayed around the room perimeter creates a barrier that stops adult moths from re-entering treated areas.

How to Prevent Clothes Moths From Returning

Store off-season clothing in sealed vacuum bags or airtight containers. Moths cannot lay eggs inside sealed storage.

Refresh peppermint spray inside your wardrobe monthly. Place cedar blocks or dried lavender alongside treated items as an additional deterrent.

Keep Sulguy Bamboo Charcoal Bags inside your wardrobe to absorb the moisture and musty odor that attracts moths in the first place.

Regular vacuuming of carpets near wardrobes is one of the most underrated prevention steps. Clothes moth larvae also feed on pet hair and skin flakes trapped in carpet fibers.
