A fly strip can catch adult flies, but placement matters. Hanging one wherever there is space may leave it far from activity or create an avoidable contact hazard.
Start by observing where flies rest and travel. Then choose a location permitted by your product's directions, away from people, pets, food, and moving equipment.
Start with the product directions
Check how the strip should be opened, secured, used, and discarded. Follow any restrictions on room type or placement. Do not substitute a generic height recommendation for your product's instructions.
Sulguy Fly Strips Glue Traps are one option to consider for adhesive trapping. Review the product directions before choosing a hanging point.
Kitchen: keep clear of food and preparation areas
Never hang an exposed adhesive strip above food, dishes, counters used for preparation, or a dining table. Avoid spots where a falling strip or trapped insects could contaminate surfaces.
If there is no suitable location away from food and regular contact, do not force a strip into the room. Prioritize removing food residue and repairing entry points instead.
Flies near produce, drains, or trash may have different sources. Our kitchen fly inspection guide helps you decide where to investigate first.
Utility room: watch the working space
Look for activity near an exterior door or window. Choose a secure hanging point away from laundry, shelving access, and anywhere people carry baskets or reach overhead.
Keep strips away from fans and other moving equipment. Do not attach them to hot surfaces, electrical fixtures, or a location the directions do not permit.
Garage: avoid traffic and stored supplies
If your product permits garage use, choose a point outside vehicle movement and normal walking routes. Keep it clear of tools, pet areas, open storage, and anything that might brush against it.
A strip near an entry route cannot compensate for a door left open. Repair screens and reduce unnecessary door-open time. See our door and window prevention checklist.
Remove the source while you trap adults
Empty waste regularly, clean container rims, and remove food residues. Check recycling, forgotten produce, and pet waste. Keep waste containers closed.
Use our trash can checklist for a targeted cleaning routine. If flies keep returning, read how to look for a persistent source.
Check results and replace as directed
Note where you place each strip and inspect it regularly. Replace strips according to the directions or when dust and accumulated insects reduce the available adhesive surface.
Keep both unused and installed strips away from children and pets. Dispose of used strips so nobody has to handle the adhesive directly.
Persistent fly activity, a sudden unexplained increase, or inaccessible breeding material may need professional investigation. More strips are not always the answer. Better source control usually matters more than adding another hanging point.
