Start with the shelf, not a spray
Ants in a pantry can turn a small spill into a recurring trail. Before choosing a treatment, protect the food and follow the trail to its entry point.
A clean shelf helps, but crumbs beneath shelf liners or a sticky bottle cap can keep activity going. Work through one shelf at a time rather than emptying everything into another room.
Inspect food before putting it back
Check cereal folds, flour-bag seams, snack cartons, dried fruit, and sweeteners. Look beneath each package and around the lid, not just inside the container.
Discard food that ants have entered or visibly contaminated. Do not spray a package and assume the food inside is protected. Keep questionable items separate while you inspect the remaining shelf.
Move unaffected dry foods into clean, tightly closing containers. Wash sticky jars before storing them, and let containers dry before refilling.
Clean the hidden food sources
Vacuum loose crumbs from shelf joints and corners. Empty the vacuum contents promptly, then wipe washable surfaces with mild soap and water.
Lift removable liners and check shelf-pin holes, cabinet hinges, and the space beneath lower shelves. Follow the cabinet manufacturer's cleaning guidance and avoid soaking unfinished wood.
Pay attention to honey bottles, oil containers, recycling, and bulk-food scoops. A clean front edge does little if a spill remains behind a bin.
Follow the trail beyond the pantry
Watch where ants travel before wiping the trail away. Note whether they enter through a wall joint, pipe opening, or adjoining cabinet.
Check nearby plumbing for dampness and inspect the exterior side of the wall when accessible. Repair leaks and seal appropriate gaps after assessing the entry route.
If activity also appears around appliances, use our dishwasher inspection checklist. For repeated trails after cleaning, read why ants keep coming back.
Keep monitoring separate from food
A crawling-insect monitor may help show where insects travel. It does not remove an ant colony or replace food-source cleanup.
Review the Sulguy Insect & Pest Glue Traps instructions before choosing a placement. Keep adhesive devices away from food, children, pets, and food-contact surfaces.
Do not apply pesticides to stored food or food-contact surfaces. Use a pesticide only where its label permits, following all preparation and household precautions.
Check progress without changing everything at once
Record the shelf, entry point, and time of each sighting. Recheck cleaned shelves and sealed containers daily at first, then adjust inspections as activity changes.
If trails persist, spread into several rooms, or emerge from inaccessible wall spaces, seek identification and a targeted plan from a qualified pest professional.
