How to Keep Pests Out of Your RV or Camper

How to Keep Pests Out of Your RV or Camper

Why RVs Attract Pests

RVs and campers offer everything pests need: warmth, shelter, food residue, and plenty of hidden entry points. When parked or stored for weeks at a time, they become prime targets for mice, cockroaches, ants, and spiders.

Unlike a fixed home, an RV sits close to the ground and is regularly moved to new environments — each new campsite brings new pest exposure. Prevention needs to be ongoing, not just a one-time fix.

The Biggest Threats: Mice and Cockroaches

Mice can squeeze through gaps the size of a dime. They chew wiring, insulation, and upholstery and leave droppings in food storage areas. A single mouse inside an RV can cause hundreds of dollars in damage.

Cockroaches are hitchhikers. They often enter via cardboard boxes, grocery bags, or secondhand items brought inside. Once established, they are difficult to eliminate in a confined space.

Step 1 — Seal Every Gap and Opening

Inspect the underside of your RV. Look for gaps around plumbing entry points, slide-out seals, wheel wells, and utility connections. Use expanding foam or steel wool combined with silicone caulk to seal openings.

Check door seals and window gaskets. Replace any that are cracked or compressed. Even a small gap at the bottom of a door is enough for mice and large insects to enter.

Step 2 — Use Peppermint as Your First Line of Defense

Mice and many insects strongly dislike peppermint oil. Spray Sulguy Peppermint Bug Spray along baseboards, under seats, inside storage compartments, and around entry points before each trip or storage period.

For stored RVs, place peppermint-soaked cotton balls in cabinets, drawers, and under the chassis. Refresh every 2–3 weeks. This is one of the safest repellent methods available for an enclosed living space.

Step 3 — Place Glue Traps Strategically

Position Sulguy Crawling Insect Glue Traps under the driver seat, inside storage bays, along the kitchen floor, and near the entry door. These catch mice, cockroaches, spiders, and other crawling insects.

For mice specifically, use Sulguy Foldable Sticky Mouse Traps in the same locations. Check them every time you open the RV after a storage period.

Step 4 — Treat the Interior With Diatomaceous Earth

Before a long storage period, dust Sulguy Diatomaceous Earth with Peppermint along wall edges, inside cabinet bases, and under appliances. It kills crawling insects on contact and remains effective for months in dry conditions.

Diatomaceous earth is non-toxic and leaves no chemical residue, making it ideal for food preparation areas inside an RV.

Step 5 — Manage Food Storage Carefully

Never leave open food packages inside a stored RV. Transfer all dry goods to sealed airtight containers. Clean the refrigerator and microwave thoroughly before storage — even small crumbs attract cockroaches and ants.

Place Sulguy Bamboo Charcoal Bags inside the RV during storage to absorb moisture and odors that attract pests. Place one in each room area and one in the kitchen cabinet zone.

Step 6 — Treat the Exterior Perimeter When Parked

When camping for multiple nights, apply a diluted solution of Sulguy Bifenthrin Concentrate around the tires and undercarriage of your RV. This creates a contact barrier that stops ants, spiders, and other crawling insects from climbing up into the vehicle.

Also spray around hookup connections and the hitch area. These are common entry routes for pests that crawl up from the ground.

For Cockroach Prevention Specifically

Apply Sulguy Cockroach Gel Bait in small dots inside cabinet hinges, under the sink, and behind the refrigerator. Gel bait is the most effective tool for preventing cockroach establishment in a confined space.

Treat Sulguy Crawling Pest Control Powder Spray into wall voids and under appliances if you suspect cockroaches are already present.
